When art meets light…
‘Document the moments you feel most in love with yourself - what you’re wearing, who you’re around, what you’re doing. Recreate and repeat.’ Warsan Shire.
This shoot was WONDERFUL! But not only that, it was my first taste of what a family session could look like. We met in Bournemouth underneath the bypass on a beautifully sunny afternoon in late September.
I didn’t have any set expectation of how this photoshoot would play out, other than to keep it relaxed and intentional. As I’m keen to explore documentary photography, I tried to shoot with minimal direction and just observe the story from the sidelines, capturing it exactly as it played out in front of my camera. I love capturing moments that are natural and candid.
The bikes and bubbles created movement and a sense of authenticity that kept this story personal. You can almost feel the energy and hear the laughter in these photographs. It was so much fun to capture the children as they whizzed past on their bikes! Because they were engaged in an activity that they love doing, they forgot that I was taking photos of them, which is exactly as documentary photography should be, but also makes the experience and end result authentic.
We were so lucky with the weather on this day. The vibrant street art that adorns the architecture was illuminated by the sunlight that playfully danced across it, creating intense shadows and patterns, which I took full advantage of!
A huge thank you to this magical family for trusting me to create these special memories for them.
It was a giant leap into the unknown and my first taste of professional photography!
I hope you enjoy the collection. x
